Daedel Tables

Each table is unique. View tables

Joy makes mosaic tables of exceptional quality, using finely cut ceramic and glass tesserae, she creates artistic designs of stunning beauty and functionality.

Each mosaic is set in glassfibre-reinforced concrete, cast in a framework of steel mounted on a pentapodic base; five gently curving legs of rolled boxsection steel, retained by a single hooped steel rod. All bases are shot blasted, and powder coated for weather resilience, making them suitable for exterior or interior placement.

"I present my table designs 'in the round' to narate the relationships between colour, shape and texture which play out in my designs."

Wall Hangings

Mosaic art to hang on walls.

Joy produces wall hangings in a variety of formats, the selection available to view in her gallery includes tall narrow pieces (126 X 28 cm), smaller portrait (30 X 60 cm), landscape (80 X 60 cm) and, of course, circular ( 40 cm diameter).

Joy's wallhangings are all made using the 'reverse method', unlike her tables the wall hangings are fixed to 'tile backing board', a lightweight substrate that gives the finished piece a lightness you wouldn't expect from mosaic. Wallhangings are designed for indoor display and can be easily hung using picture hooks.

"For me it's the design that dictates the format, I am constantly striving to explore new ways to present my mosaics."

Commissions

Collaborative Mosaics.

Joy accepts commissions when time allows, they are not her primary focus. The projects that Joy has worked on have all had an element of exploration; be it using new tools, new techniques, woking directly with clients in the design process, or creating innovative new tiles.

The biggest project Joy undertook was a series of ten 80 cm dia. mosaics forming a puzzle trail to celebrate the centenary of the Girl Guides movement in 2010. Each mosaic had an inset bespoke braille tile, when all the letters were collected they spelled a word.

"I enjoy commisiions when they force me to think beyond my self-imposed limits and find ways to integrate other peoples visions."

House plaques.

Joy has made a variety of house plaques, ranging from simple number plaques to more detailed name plaques. Prices vary according to the complexity of the design or number of letters/numbers involved. The aquisition of a 'ring saw' in 2016 has enabled the cutting of complex glyphs, reducing work time and therefore cost.

View Spheres

Arty spheres

Sculptural petterns in a golbe-like format.

These mosaics, forming a skin around a solid resin sphere, play with light and colour in a quirky and intriguing way.

A departure from the 'reverse method' which underpins Joy's other mosaic work, each sphere is an exploration of three dimensional design as expressed through mosaic patterns.

"I find working on my spheres to be very relaxing, allowing me to have a bit of fun and explore new avenues."

Coasters

Attractive, durable surface protection.

Joy makes coasters in a wide variety of designs and colours. This gallery currently displays a basic range of designs, with a limited range of colours.

Each coaster is set in a solid bed of grout and, due to the 'revese method' of production, they are perfectly flat. All coasters are sealed against staining and backed with a layer of felt.

Platters

Hardwearing surface protection, or stunning centre pieces.

As with coasters, Joy makes Platters in a wide variety of designs and colours. This gallery currently displays a basic range of designs, with a limited range of colours.

Each Platter, incorporating larger 50mm ceramic tiles, is set in a solid bed of grout and, due to the 'revese method' of production, they are perfectly flat. All Platters are sealed against staining, can tolerate a reasonable exposure to heat and are backed with a layer of felt to protect surfaces.
